FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT WILL HAPPEN DURING THE FIRST TREATMENT AND WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

A full case history will need to be taken over the phone prior to your first visit. Diagnostic tools such as looking at your tongue and taking the pulse will be carried out in face to face. Clothing should be loose fitting to allow for access to the arms and legs. You may be required to undress to gain access to certain acupuncture points but this will be discussed with you and decided upon before the treatment begins.

WHERE WILL YOU PLACE THE NEEDLES AND HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

Acupuncture points are located over the entire body, after a diagnosis has been reached you might need a combination of points. Some will probably be located local to the problem and others will seem to be unrelated but acupuncture is a system of medicine that considers the body as a whole. This means a needle might be placed in your hand to treat a problem with the neck or a needle inserted in your foot relates to a disorder with the eyes.

Acupuncture has a cumulative effect on the body. Usually you will need a course of treatment for it to be effective. How many treatments you will need is usually judged on if the problem is acute or chronic and how well you respond to treatment. Some conditions that are acute can resolve in 3-6 treatments, some do take longer to resolve. Whatever the prognosis your condition will be reviewed usually around treatment 4-6 and you will be informed of best course of action going forward.
